Built in the 1920’s, this Japanese hospital in Garapan was state-of-the-art for its day. This was the first government hospital but it was reserved for only the Japanese. A wood building behind the Japanese hospital was built to treat the non-Japanese people. An underground bunker was built behind the hospital during the military fortification efforts of the Japanese in the late 1930’s.
