German Admin 01

Just above the roof of the yellow church notice the wooden bell tower. The Germans constructed the Bell Tower in 1910 out of wood. It was damaged in a typhoon and rebuilt by the Japanese with cement in the 1920's and looks pretty much the same today except for the bullet holes from 1944. The church attached to it was destroyed in the Battle of Saipan and today another church has taken its place. The building with the red roof was the German administration building in Garapan. Today, houses occupy the land where the administration building property was. These are German buildings although the picture was taken during the Japanese times.
